Air Conditioning Options to Consider Installing This Spring

ductless-mini-splitSpring is the perfect time to consider installing a new air conditioner. You’re going to be needing a new air conditioner sooner rather than later, and you don’t want to wait until summer when prices go up. There’s quite a few different air conditioning options to choose from, though. How do you know that you’re getting the right one for your needs? Well, it’s a good idea to consult with a professional technician in-person before making any permanent decisions. Still, you can at least familiarize yourself with some of the more popular options for air conditioning systems before you call.

Central AC

Central air conditioners have been around for quite a long time, and remain one of the more popular options for home cooling throughout the country. Centralized AC systems are versatile, affordable, and can provide substantial cooling output for relatively little investment. They’re not the most energy-efficient cooling system types on the market, of course, and they do require that you have ductwork already installed in your home. If you’re looking for something reliable that will keep you cool throughout the summer, however, this is a great type to choose.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are popular among homeowners who want to save a bit of money and space on their climate control. They’re built similarly to air conditioners, but with the ability to switch their refrigerant flows back and forth. This enables them to offer both heating and air conditioning functions on-demand. If you want to rely on just one climate control system throughout the year, saving some money on operating costs in the process, a heat pump might be a great solution for you.

Ductless Mini Splits

A ductless mini split is a heat pump, but one that doesn’t use ductwork. Instead of a centralized unit, a ductless mini split system makes use of smaller air handlers installed around the home. Each air handler only conditions the room in which it is installed, and up to four air handlers are connected to a single outdoor unit. Each air handler can operate autonomously from the rest of the system, thanks to individual thermostats installed in each one.

A ductless mini split provides you with both convenience and energy efficiency when it comes to climate control. You don’t have to worry about bothering anyone else in the home when you set the ideal temperature for the room you’re using. You also don’t have to waste energy on rooms that aren’t actively being used. Ductless mini splits do require a bit more construction effort in most homes, as they are not automatically set up to make use of such systems. Still, it could well be worth it if you are interested in gaining greater control over your climate.
