Careful of These Water Heater Problems

tank-water-heaterWater heaters are built to last, but they aren’t invincible. Eventually, years of use will cause problems of various kinds to crop up in a water heater. You can lower the chances of problems occurring by scheduling professional maintenance at least once a year. However, this isn’t a guarantee. At some point, you will have to repair your system between maintenance appointments. The faster you can tell when your system is having problems, the faster you can have it repaired and the better off it will be.

Leaks

You should never ignore any leaks you find in your water heater system, no matter how small they are. Small leaks will often become large leaks if left alone for long enough, and if they’re in the right place they can cause an immense amount of damage. If you have a tank water heater, for example, a leak can eventually weaken the tank to the point that it ruptures. You’ll have to replace the entire system at that point.

Low Output

If your water heater seems to have trouble keeping up with even a moderate amount of demand, there might be a couple of different reasons. It’s possible that you have a problem with the burner assembly, or that sediment buildup on the bottom of the tank is insulating the water inside from the heat. It’s also possible that there’s a problem with the thermostat, which you should check before calling for repairs. Regardless, this is something that you should have a professional take a look at as soon as possible. It’s likely you’ll need to have professional repairs of some kind on the system to restore it to proper output levels.
