Signs You Need a New Water Heater

Water heaters can last many years, provided that you take proper care of them. However, no matter how well you take care of your water heater, you will eventually need a new one. It is important that you be able to identify the signs that your water heater is reaching the end of its life, so that you can replace it before it fails completely. You don’t want to be suddenly without hot water, after all. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you need a new water heater.

Declining Output

If you put a lot of demand on your water heater for a long period of time, you will eventually exhaust its supply of hot water. However, the older and more worn out a heat pump gets, the more its ability to provide hot water will decline. If your water heater seems unable to keep up with even a moderate amount of demand, it may be that it needs to be replaced.

Increased Repairs

Even newer water heaters need repairs every few years. However, older water heaters have much more accumulated wear and tear on the various parts that make up their systems. This added wear and tear will cause those parts to fail in groups, requiring that the water heater be repaired much more often. If you need to have your water heater repaired every few months, you definitely need to install a new one.

Age

Water heaters typically last between 15 and 20 years. After that point, they tend to become more and more expensive to maintain. If your water heater is older than 20 years, you should talk to a professional about whether or not you need a new system.
